The Apostle John was called the beloved by the Lord Jesus. He was one of three disciples considered part of the inner circle of Peter, James and John and was the only apostle who was not martyred. The Emperor Domitian, was obsessed with the idea of Christianity and made it very hard for anyone to practice it openly, so John, like other Christians was banished to the island of Patmos to work in rock quarries. “Whose Image You Are” intertwines a little of the Biblical recording of what John saw in the spirit while on the island and a believable and practical story that goes beyond traditional theory and researches the true history of the island and brings it to life.
The island of Patmos is believed to be the results of a volcanic eruption. It’s name means, “my killing” and was considered sterile in the sense not much grew there. It wasn’t a major seaport, but it was an island on the sea-lanes from Rome to Ephesus. So, it wasn’t altogether a deserted place like tradition may cause us to believe. It had temples built in honor of the Roman goddess Diana and Greek god Apollo. Even though it was not a major seaport, it was important to Rome as it was an island rich in stone that was harvested for Rome’s use.
John did not die on the island, but lived his last years in Ephesus.
